Internet Connection Requests

This page allows live-in Betas to request activation of ethernet ports throughout the house. This yearly process helps the Technology Chair to keep our network in top condition, and everyone can appreciate that.

The first network port (typically the upper-left port on the wall plate) is activated in every room. Please submit this form once for each network port beyond the first port you would like activated. Port numbers are written on the outlet boxes in each room. Without the port number, the port can’t be activated. If the number is missing, call the Technology Chair and he will try to look up the number based on your room number. The ports that end in “D” are ethernet ports (e.g. 2-10D, 3-22D).

The Technology Chair reserves the right to deactivate a port without warning if requested by Information Services, or if he finds evidence of virus traffic or abuse. To prevent this, please make sure your machine is protected: this means running a firewall, updated anti-virus, and anti-spyware. Windows XP and Mac OS X provide a built-in firewall, Microsoft provides free anti-spyware for Windows, and UNL provides free anti-virus software for all students. If you don’t know how to do this, you can ask on the forums or contact the Technology Chair, and he will gladly help you out.
