Alumni Relations

Alumni support is crucial to the success of the Beta Theta Pi Foundation, which was established to advance the educational Mission and Goals of Beta Theta Pi. The Foundation strives to offer a variety of opportunities for gift support of the Fraternity's educational activities and provides much needed resources to the chapter. The alumni of the Alpha Tau chapter were also particularly instrumental in the chapter’s reorganization in 1997, which helped bring Beta into its current period of success and high achievement at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. None of this would be possible without the generous support and donations from Beta Theta Pi’s alumni.

The Alpha Tau Chapter of Beta Theta Pi also hosts annual events to bring both alumni and active members together. One of the most popular of these events is the Beta Golf Classic. The 8th annual tournament was held on October 1st, 2006 at Quarry Oaks Golf Club outside Ashland. The members of the 2006 Beta Golf Classic Champions Team were Roger Anderson, Al Campbell, Van Brownson, and Duane Sullivan, with a score of 9 under par. Their names can be found engraved on the Beta Golf Classic Plaque near the front door of the Alpha Tau Chapter house.

The Alpha Tau Chapter has also held annual summer rush events at the homes of various alumni. Carl Sjulin has been gracious enough to offer his farm over the past two summers as the site of the alumni rush event. This has been a great experience and truly shows potential members what it means to be a Beta for life. The Alpha Tau Chapter also hosts an annual alumni reunion on a Saturday before a home football game. Alumni are given the opportunity to share memories with their pledge brothers, meet some of the actives, and take tours of the house.

Because alumni are so important to the success of the Alpha Tau Chapter of Beta Theta Pi, our fraternity has established many ways of remaining in contact and promoting interaction between the active chapter and the alumni association. One such way is through the publication of our newsletter, The Dragon’s Tale. These newsletters are sent out to alumni three times a year with information pertaining to upcoming events and accomplishments of our chapter. Back issues of The Dragon’s Tale are also available online.

In 2006, the Beta Technology Consortium created an email mailing list for messages to all alumni who have provided their email address to the general fraternity. This means of communication has proved very useful in alerting alumni to chapter current events. Electronic newsletters called the “Alpha Tau Flash” are sent out over this mailing list every month. If you would like to be added to the mailing list, please update your information with the General Fraternity using the link on the right side of this page.

As always, the Alpha Tau Chapter of Beta Theta Pi welcomes alumni over to the house for formal dinners on Monday evenings. This is an excellent way to meet newly initiated members and to share your experiences with other Betas.
